Hornbeam Hedge now for Sale

12 Aug 2010 12:16:42

Jack Dunckley's Birchfield Nursery is now stocking established Hornbeam Hedging for £122 per metre.

The Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) is a hardy native hedge which is similar in appearance to the Green Beech. It produces green catkins from late spring to autumn which turn to clusters of winged fruit and act as a food source for bird and wildlife. The bright green leaves darken during the summer with dead leaves hanging on into January if the hedge is kept well trimmed. Much like the Beech hedge, the Hornbeam hedge prefers damp and well drained soil and is perfect for tall garden screening.

'Birchfield' at Hampton Court Flower Show, 2010

Hampton Court Flower Show 2010 was a terrific success for Birchfield Nursery and myself.

It took the team three weeks to build our garden “Birchfield” and we are very proud that it received an RHS “silver Medal”.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came and said hello to me during the show. Knowing how much you liked and enjoyed the garden is so important to me.

Over the coming weeks, we will be adding more pictures to the website and video interviews with Angela Rippon, James Wong and Debbie McGee.

Please click on the video link to get a brief taste of what we achieved with “Birchfield”.

I look forward to seeing you at the nursery soon.

All the best

Jack

It's not long to go before the opening of the Hampton Court Flower show and the construction work is going well for my show garden.

I love this event and I'm looking forward to getting my garden just right for the general public and the judges.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the great people who are helping me to achieve my dream.

Hope to see you at the show,

All the best,
Jack

In July, Jack will be going for gold at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower with his show garden called “Birchfield”.

“This will be the second garden that I have designed at Hampton Court and I can’t wait to begin the build.” Commented Jack.

The theme for Jack’s Garden is that of a formal cottage garden has been designed for enjoyment, socialising and relaxation.

It with feature long, tranquil herbaceous borders, a close-cropped lawn and a large hornbeam hedge that forms a backdrop.

A calming central pond with add to the formal design, and a wooden pergola provides protection from the elements.

Three maples bring structure and height to the back of the garden, and trickling water enhances the peaceful atmosphere.

“I’ve really enjoyed creating this garden and I can’t wait to get comments from the judges and visitors to the show” Said Jack.

Watch the film to see how Jack’s preparations are going.
